A Numerical Approach to Investigate the Impact of Acid-Asphaltene Sludge Formation on Wormholing During Carbonate Acidizing

Abstract Carbonate acidization is the process of creating wormholes by injecting acid to increase reservoir permeability and oil production. Nevertheless, some oils are problematic with low asphaltene stability, which affects wormholing process. The interactions between acid, rock, lead acid-asphaltene sludge formation, reduces productivity injectivity. Neglecting this formation leads over predicting depth wormhole penetration. Therefore, a numerical model was developed in study provide better understanding effect on creation propagation carbonates. A one-dimensional radial coupling fluid flow equations porous media deposition reactions. Then, validated utilized investigate effects different parameters including presence, injection volume concentration, temperature porosity, concentration. Results showed that carbonates asphaltenic reduce penetration from 40% total pore blockage as opposed reservoirs without deposition. findings also highlighted shallow more pronounced high injection, formations, less diluted concentration asphaltene. In addition, there an optimum at its infiltration deep into formation. This first work discuss modeling subsequent development carbonates, particularly important for crude oils.
